Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — one of the most biodiverse marine environments in the Indian Ocean. Four Seasons opened Landaa Giraavaru here in 2006, and the resort has been shaped by the atoll ever since. At 103 villas across beach and overwater categories, it has genuine breadth — large enough to offer real choice, considered enough not to feel like a complex.
The dining alone gives you a sense of the range. Blu Beach Club is led by two-Michelin-starred Chef Nino Di Costanzo and serves Italian food on a kilometre of white sand. Al Barakat draws from the Eastern Mediterranean and the Silk Road, overwater, in collaboration with the celebrated Beiruti restaurant Mayrig. Café Landaa runs a tandoor and curry kitchen alongside an interactive teppanyaki counter set inside a water garden. Fuego Grill handles fresh catch and prime cuts on the beach. There are four bars, including the Seabar — an overwater deck where lemon sharks are a regular fixture beneath the structure in the evening.
The marine biology programme runs in partnership with the Manta Trust, with a coral propagation nursery and sea turtle rehabilitation centre on the island. Between May and November, manta aggregations at nearby Hanifaru Bay — the world's largest — are accessible directly from the resort. AyurMa, the Ayurvedic retreat, operates as a separate facility offering Panchakarma and immersions of seven, fourteen, or twenty-one nights. These two programmes are what genuinely distinguish Landaa from every other large luxury resort in the Maldives.
