Baa Atoll
UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Manta season Jun–Nov.
About the Atoll
What Baa is for, and what it isn’t.
Baa Atoll is the Maldives' UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the reason it earned that designation is Hanifaru Bay — a marine protected area where the right tidal window concentrates two hundred mantas at a time, feeding in formation.
The season runs roughly June to November. The window for any given week is narrow and depends on lunar tides; we plan trips around it for guests for whom the manta encounter is the brief.
Outside manta season, Baa is still one of the country's most consistent atolls for reef life, with quieter resorts and a deliberate slow pace.
