What North Male is for, and what it isn’t.
North Malé is the atoll most travellers' Maldives experience begins and ends with. It surrounds the capital and the international airport, and a speedboat ride is enough to be on a private island.
The atoll built the modern Maldives luxury circuit. Its resorts are mature, well-staffed, and consistent. House reefs are good rather than exceptional; the trade-off is the shortest transfer in the country.
We recommend North Malé for first-time visitors, short stays, families with younger children, and anyone who would rather not face a seaplane.
